What to Expect from the Vein Center of Florida

September 30, 2016

Varicose and spider veins can be both painful and unsightly, but the good news is there are plenty of effective methods for treating them today. When you make your appointment at the Vein Center of Florida, you are starting a process of diagnosing and treating your vein disorder that will bring positive results. Here is a rundown of the vein treatment process so you can know what to expect from your experience at the Vein Center of Florida.

Your Consultation

When you schedule your first appointment with Dr. Jimenez, you will be asked to wear comfortable clothing and be ready to share your symptoms and medical history. You will need to arrive about 15 minutes prior to your scheduled time in order to fill out necessary paperwork as well. Dr. Jimenez will sit down with you and listen to all the information you provide very carefully, so he can make an accurate assessment of your vein condition before recommending treatment options for you.

Your Diagnosis

Once all the information is collected, you will have a vein screening using Doppler ultrasound. This painless procedure uses sound waves to create images of your vessels. Dr. Jimenez will also be able to see how the blood is moving through the veins, to detect any potential abnormalities. Through this diagnostic process, Dr. Jimenez can pinpoint the precise source of your vein condition, which allows him to recommend the most effective treatment for your specific needs.

Your Treatment Options

Once the assessment is complete, you will be presented with treatment options tailored to your specific situation. The treatments at the Vein Center of Florida include:

  • Cosmetic Sclerotherapy – an injectable treatment used to eliminate small, superficial spider veins
  • Foam Sclerotherapy – also an injectable procedure that can treat larger spider and some varicose veins
  • Endovenous Laser Treatment (EVLT) – uses laser energy to eliminate larger varicose veins
  • Ambulatory Phlebectomy – removes large, bulging varicose veins from the leg in small sections
  • Scleroablative Therapy – effective in treating recurring varicose veins in patients that have had vein stripping or other procedures in the past

All of these treatments are minimally-invasive and can be performed right in our office. Some may require local anesthesia prior to treatment to ensure patient comfort throughout the procedure. Patients are typically able to return to regular activities the same day or the day after their procedure.

Your Follow-Up

After your vein treatment, you may be given compression stockings to wear for a few days. These stockings offer gradient pressure that is tighter in the foot and looser as the sock moves up the leg. The purpose of compression stockings is to promote healthy blood flow in the legs and encourage healing after a vein treatment.

Dr. Jimenez will also schedule a follow-up appointment with you after your vein treatment to ensure the procedure worked correctly. At this time, you will also be able to ask questions about lowering your risk for future varicose veins or address any additional concerns you might have.

Dr. Jimenez believes in forming a positive relationship with all of his patients, whether they only require one vein treatment or a series of appointments to address all of their vein concerns. Patients see Dr. Jimenez personally at every appointment, giving them the chance to ask questions and share information. Although this is not the standard for every medical practice today, Dr. Jimenez believes the patient-doctor relationship is essential for ensuring the highest level of care and service for all of his patients.
